About Me

My name is Jannik Schestag, and I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics at TU Delft in the Netherlands.

I started my PhD at Philipps-Universität Marburg in Germany under the supervision of Dr. Christian Komusiewicz in May 2022. Supported by a DAAD research grant, I spent six months as a visiting researcher at TU Delft in 2023. Afterwards, I moved with Christian to Jena and submitted and defended my PhD thesis with magna cum laude. Since January 2025, I have been working under the supervision of Dr. Leo van Iersel at TU Delft.

In August 2026, I will join the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bergen in Norway as a Postdoctoral Researcher supervised by Dr. Fedor Fomin. This position is funded through the ERC Advanced Grant New Horizons of Parameterized Complexity.

My research focuses on parameterized algorithm design and complexity, with a particular emphasis on phylogenetics, the study of evolutionary histories. I am interested in developing efficient algorithms for computationally challenging problems and understanding the limits of efficient computation.

I serve on the Program Committee of SOFSEM 2027.
