About Me

My name is Jannik Schestag, and I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics at TU Delft in the Netherlands.

I started my PhD at Marburg University in Germany under the supervision of Dr. Christian Komusiewicz in May 2022. Supported by a DAAD research grant, I spent six months as a visiting researcher at TU Delft in 2023. Afterwards, I moved with Christian to Jena, where I submitted and defended my PhD thesis with magna cum laude. Since January 2025, I have been working at TU Delft under the supervision of Dr. Leo van Iersel.

In August 2026, I will join the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bergen in Norway as a Postdoctoral Researcher supervised by Dr. Fedor Fomin. This position is funded through ERC Advanced Grant New Horizons of Parameterized Complexity.

My research focuses on the design of algorithms within the framework of parameterized complexity with a particular emphasis on phylogenetics, the study of evolutionary relationships. I develop efficient algorithms for computationally challenging problems and study the limits of efficient computation.

I serve on the Program Committee of SOFSEM 2027.
